Best way to clean Thermalright AX-7?

Metalloid

I have a Thermalright AX-7 with a48.5cfm fan that I fear may be getting dusty becuase I have a 108cfm intake case fan and no filter. I ordered a filter but it has been on backorder for over 2 months, I will call them tommorow if I remember. I have noticed a slight increase in CPU temps over what they were when I first installed the AX-7. Anyway, what is the best way to get the dust off of the hs/f? Thanks guys.

I have a few cans of unopened tennis balls. Would that work? If so, then I will do it next time I go to play tennis.

Just be careful with the high-pressure air. If you're cleaning a fan, hold the fan blades in place with your free hand while you're blowing the dust out. Letting the fan free-spin will send it to RPM levels that it is not designed for and possibly damage the fan.

Good luck!

If you do the canned air route make sure:

System is turned off.

You don't tilt the can - liquid whatever will come out.

A friend of mine did both above and fried his board & RAM a few weeks ago.

No, I am equally as confused...

Unopened can of tennis balls, hence canned air. 🙂

Well so far we have one person who understands and two who dont. Tennis balls are stored in a pressurized can, and when you take off the metal lid, the air comes out quickly. Will it work? Because I dont feel like going to Meijers and paying for air in a can.

Tennis ball cans are pressurized to around 15 psi, iirc. The amount of air you get out of a single can probably isn't enough to blow out very much dust. I'd guess the slight increase in CPU temps are more due to spring and higher temps than dust anyways. I haven't found the AX-7 to be overly dusty at least.

I had also thought it was due to a higher room temperature. But it is currently 70F in this room and my temps are still higher than they were. Will blowing really work that well?
