My rig is a bit dusty on the inside and I'd like to clean it up... First thought was a brush attachment on the end of a sweeper hose but I'm concerned about zapping components with ESD...

Next thought was using canned air to blow off dust...

Any other ways?

Leaf Blower !!!

I just upgraded a Dell PowerEdge Server. Got all the dust out. I use it on all my customers computers.
Really it's the best , it gets rid of spiders dead bugs etc.

Actually, I think he's commenting on the versatility of the leaf blower ;) I have to disagree with him though, while my 5800U is great for gaming it would be ill suited for trying to clean a case of dust or remove dead insects from the garage or drive-way :p

but make sure said shop vac doesn't have a penny that will come shooting out the exhaust port and scratch a trace on your mobo (yes, that happened)

I really like the leafblower idea, but I always use canned air. It's clean and dry. R

I'll second that. I rebuilt my second computer (replaced mobo with an Abit NF7S 2.0) a few months ago, and its green aluminum Cheiftec tower w/window was REALLY dusty. I took all the parts out and took the case outside on the deck. I turned my leaf blower on high, and the tower was clean in no time :D

I use a vacuum, with the brush. I leave the computer plugged in, so it's grounded.

So far, no trouble.

I have used all - air blower, air sucker, etc. But - my current favorite is a Swiffer tissue. It eats dust and removes it - doesn't blow it from one place to another.

Vacumn cleaner(Shop Vac) to get the larger rabbits and air cans to get the nooks and crannies. If I'm at work and working on a system, Then air-compressor all the way.

Canned air (or whatever it is, that just happens to boil rapidly at room temperature) that's in electronics stores/departments. That blasts dust out of heatsinks and hard to reach places. Then, for anything else, I use a Dustbuster. Both are powerful enough to remove dust, but they won't be able to suck/blow components or RAMsinks off of anything.

3 cans of compressed (canned) air is the best way. But do it outside, so the dust doesn't settle all over the room! Make sure to use short blasts instead of holding down the trigger. And when the can gets icy, run it under hot water to "charge" it back up again.

ditto...

if you use a general use air compressor, make sure it has a scrubber on it to filter the air/moisture off

A leaf blower works great because leaving a computer (Dell) on for 4.5 yrs 24/7) will suck up everything in sight. Also computer's in manf./warehouses also attract a lot of dust. The leaf blower get's the job done.
