Best way to build up your dvd collection

I would be surprised if this has never been posted here, but I didn't see it anywhere, so here goes. Go to http://talk.dvdtalk.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/014083.html (sorry, still don't know how to linkify) for the details, they do an excellent job of explaining it. To kind of sum up, Columbia House has some really good enrollment specials. The best ones (I used the HMA deal) involve calling their 800 # and giving the cc rep your code. As an example, the HMA code lets you order 7 movies total. Your initial shipment is 3 for a buck apiece, 1 for 14.95, then one more for free with free shipping. Comes to around $19 or so since you do pay sales tax. Then you order 2 more at 19.95 or higher apiece within 2 years and that's it. Comes to around $9 per movie.

I don't think it has been posted here, as it's not truly a "Hotdeal" ...the selections they have are usually crap and take a long time to bring new realeses to market...

the selections are crappy if you go on their site but i have called their cs and asked for stuff i would see on buy.com and they would have it. so its kind of deceiving that they dont put the good movies on their "free" selection but they actually have a real good selection. ive "joined" their club like 3 times already and im pretty satisfied.

I was just building up my VHS collection when I was given a DVD player. Then suddenly I found out just how much better DVD's were. I don' think I've touched my old collection and have spent a fortune collecting DVD's

The best way to take advantage of this deal is pick 2 armaggeddon criterion sell them on e bay that pays for the enrollment eerything else is free.There is a list in that thread of expensive movies and there numbers to roder them.

Columbia House??? Are you REALLY ready for that kind of committment? I mean, I would get married before I'd join that club. I have friends that have been trying to cancel for a long time... Actually, if you cancel, they will offer you another "deal" to keep you on as a customer. Just make sure you read all the fine print.

If you follow the directions posted on the other site, you will never get anything mailed to you that you don't want. You either order your commitment titles as soon as your original order comes in and cancel during the same phone call, or ask to become an "elite" member, so you don't have to send back your reply cards. As I said in my original post, this is really good for just building up your collection, buying movies you don't want to waste coupons or other deals on. Especially the Criterion Edition of Armageddon, considering how much that runs normally. And they do have really good customer service, if you get the wrong title or anything is damaged, they will usually ship a new one to you without even waiting for the original one to get back to them.

Um... take the following advice at your own descretion as I am only reporting the news and not proponing it:

A few accquaintances of mine have reported that they have ordered several DVDs from Columbia House at their listed rate. When it came time to pay, though, they wroted "deceased" on the bill and sent it back. They were never bothered again. I would never condone such action and am not doing it now. I am merely reporting what I heard, nothing more.
