Hey guys, I'll be buying my new headphones tonight, the koss ksc50 like you guys suggested. I am wondering what the best way to break them in is. Should I just leave my computer on overnight pumping tunes into the headphones on a volume I won't notice while sleeping, or something else?

If you want to break them in, play tunes with a wide range of tones and leave them on on a pretty good volume . . ..

At least that's what I heard . . ..

You could do that too. But normal listening will do the job too. Maybe it'll just take longer or something.

I made myself a CD with a 74 minute 0-20Khz sweep.

I'm sure you could come up with something better though, that was just playing around.

White noise. Actually pink noise is better, but white noise will do. Just tune to a spot on the radio where you get nothing but static, that's white noise. Start at a moderate volume and increase volume to loud over a 24hr period.

That being said, I think "breaking-in" audio equipment is more psychological than anything.

Breaking in loosens the drivers. Bass gets extended. Treble becomes less harsh. That part isn't psychological. But the thing is, it'll happen no matter what. Maybe using the funky things people have been talking about is faster. But the simplest thing is just listening to your music.

If you want to do SOMEthing... you could try listening to bass heavy music. And after a couple hours leave it on at louder than normal volumes. (You probably shouldn't be listening when it's louder than normal). But that's all you need.

good headphones do need to be broken in. My HD280's took a long time to start sounding good...

I used to think that as well, but when I bought my home subwoofer, I was surprised at the results.

After first getting it, the sound was very bad. The bass was generally weak and very muffled.
From that time two after a few weeks of breaking in, the change was astounding. Now the same frequency test shake the house via nice and smooth reproduction.

Obviously this is a very loud component which is easy t oadaquately observe.....headphones probably won't have the same change.
