I'm preparing to send my laptop in for repair and it's possible that they will reset everything and clear out my hard drives. I want to figure out a way to make a copy of both of my drives (SSD & HDD) where it retains all my data, settings, programs, etc. that I can restore once I get it back. A lot of programs were a real bitch to get working and I don't want to go through that hell again. Any help with this matter will be greatly appreciated.

If you have another drive that can hold the info, do a google search for cloning software. Acronis makes a good one, but there are others.

I'll save you the search. EaseUS Todo Backup Free works very well, and, as the name indicates, it's free. They give you the option not to participate in their community (i.e. not to receive spam from them)

Cloning your drive is more than a backup. If the clone drive is the same physical size (desktop or laptop) and form factor (SATA or PATA) as your original drive, and your original drive fails, the cloned drive plugs in and runs without requiring anything to be re-installed. The software also allows you to create a bootable recovery CD that can restore the clone to a new drive

In your case, if the repair facility wipes your drive, you can either pop in the clone drive (and immediately clone it for safety) or boot to the recovery CD and restore your cloned installation to the new or wiped drive.

absolutely right, there are many different software for data backup. I have tried free backup software developed by AOMEI. it can backup your hard disk, files, system and so on. it works perfectly as far as i am concerned.

If the OS had problems you will be transferring those problems to the fixed computer. Unless this is hardware specific?
