Best way to approach this

So I am on a month to month lease and my roommate is moving out August 9th (rent is due on the 1st)...and he has informed the landlord of this.

My friend is moving out from the east coast with his g/f and They decided to stay with me from the 10th till the end of the month and then they can just split the rent with my current roommate accordingly.

After that month my friend is undecided as of now, but more then likely he and his g/f will get their own place...I would rather they both stay cause its a lot easier and im rarely ever there anyway..

assuming they leave after August I will need a new roommate or leave the apartment.

The question is what to do about the security deposit...my current roommate I imagine would like to get his back when he moves out (because it can take up to 30 days)...

I could bite the bullet and front the entire security deposit, but it would really hurt my money situation for that month and not 100% sure it would be possible.

Notes-

Roommate moving out mid august, new roommate moving in for 3 weeks while we both figure out our living situation following that

who should I suggest be paying the security deposit?

eh? i dont see the problem.

the roomate moving out gets his security deposit back no question. so you have the NEW roommate pay for his fair share.

The NEW roommate is only going to be there for three weeks (probably).

I think the easiest thing to do is front it yourself, and collect from the next guy to move in semi-permanently.

yeah i guess that is going to be the best, but i have to be travelling for a week that month and that would put a big hit on it, but i gotta do what i gotta do i guess...

do you think there is any chance the landlord would allow me to stay 1 month without half of the security depost...(this lease has been running so far for almost 2 years with no problems at all)

how should we know...the only person who can answer that is your landlord.

what if there are charges that the old roomates created? are you going to bill him for damages he may have made if you front the money?
