best VNC software?

i don't know if this is the right position to gather information.

to start -- i have never used any VNC softwares other than remote desktop connection. now i've picked up two aged socket a computers and i'll be installing ubuntu on both machines. i know RDC will not work since it requires windows xp pro on every machine.

i've heard a lot about VNC but i have yet to try it.

realvnc, ultravnc and tightvnc are the names i found on the first page of google search.

which software will give me more comfortable features to use? or they all are the same?

to me, ultravnc looks really nice.

I do not know about the Linux aspect but in general UltraVNC is probably the best.

It is very easy to install and mange and it provides File transfer and online chat, thus making it very useful.

Second what Jack says. I've used several flavors of VNC over the past several years, but Ultra is the best IMHO.

I used realVNC (i think) about a year ago on a linux box...then i let someone borrow it, haven't gotten it back yet.

My fav is tightvnc as it works well with slower connections.

there are no ultravnc downloads for linux. i've been searching everywhere!

I don't see a Linux version of UltraVNC anywhere either. Give TightVNC a try. I prefer UltraVNC but TightVNC is good as well and it has a version that works in Linux.

bah, i overlooked this part:

UltraVNC runs under Windows ? operating systems (95, 98, Me, NT4, 2000, XP, 2003...). Its embedded Java Viewer allows you to connect (and make File transfers) from a simple Web Browser on any Operating system supporting Java ? (Linux, Mac OS...) to an UltraVNC server.

I use TightVNC on all my systems. (2 XP Homes, 1 Vista Home Premium, 1 Vista Ultimate, 4 Windows 2000 Pro, 1 Windows 98, 2 Ubuntu, 1CentOS5, 1 fedora Core 7/8, and an OpenSuse.)

I did not read this page thoroughly but it talks about setting up TightVNC on Ubuntu.. most linux OS's come with VNC by default or have it in the repository for you to install easily... Here is the link

oh snap, didn't ubuntu comes with its own remote desktop? because when i installed ubuntu and i could just connect to them via tightvnc when i enabled to allow myself to connect to them.
