Best VNC software for XP... to connect to a Mac

Have a Mac Mini server and want to use its built-in VNC software. Have it enabled with a password.

From my Windows XP machine on the lan, RealVNC will connect and authenticate the password but then immediately crash the software. TightVNC connects and works stable but the screen updating is painfully slow, about a 2-second lag updating the screen. Being connected on a 100mbit lan the screen should be capable of much faster refreshes.

What other software is out there that I can try to use?

Thanks

Have you already installed the DFMirage driver for Tight VNC? Just an FYI, if you're coming in from outside your home LAN, that password is clear text IIRC...

That does improve performance a lot, thanks

Hmmm, that's a good point.

I've worked in computer repair for 15 years, yet know barely the first thing about working a Mac. It's a learning experience.

I'll take a look at these suggested alternatives. Thanks

The cleartext password applies to VNC overall, not just the MAC solution. I had my session hijacked which pushed me into SSH, no problems since. Unfortunately, I don't know much about MAC OS either, so I'm not sure how to secure it.

LogMeIn, Teamviewer, both solutions that encrypt with SSL automatically.

We have a Macmini server here at work, I VNC in from my XP work machine using RealVNC viewer. On the Macmini we installed Vine.

Don't think it's ever crashed for me. Vine was a quick and simple download.
