I have the nextbook, also from walmart, also low price chinese tablet.

It has been able to play any video I have tried (mkv, rmvb, anything so far).

Your toddler is a lucky guy to have a cool toy like that.

Thanks for the reply, what player do you use? Ha, thanks - I got it for her because she kept on putting our iPads into emergency lock mode from not being able to guess the pin :) Then there's the peanut butter grease...

*.mp4 should do the trick. Chip should natively decode it.

mp4 is a container. it can hold video encoded in different codecs (h.264, MPEG2, ..._

some codecs are hardware supported by the device, some aren't (typically, hardware playback = lower CPU usage = better battery life). you'll need to play around to see what the CPU supports

I agree with using MXPlayer... been using it for a while, liked it more than other players

I still get that confused. h.264 is what I should have said, then. At least I think that's what I should have said.

Another vote for MX Player.

.mkv and .mp4 are probably the best choices. .h264 with 2 channel .aac audio would probably be the best codecs. If subtitles are an issue, you'll wanna go .mkv. I would try to keep it to 720p or lower resolution, though.
