Why yes, yes it would be the best card for the budget.

Buying used in the FS/FT forum would lead to the following prices here:

6800gt agp - 230-250
x800xl agp - 200-220
x800pro agp - 180-200
6800nu agp - 130-150
6600gt ago - 120-130
9800pro agp - 90-100
Abyss of cards not worth a damn - 0-90

Hope this helps :)

6600 is 20% slower stock and decently oced is still a good 200-300 3dmark05 points slower than a decently oced 9800pro. a x700 is pci-e only.

Most charts I've seen put the 6600GT higher than the 9800Pro.

But yeah, 9800PRo is a pretty good card, it still costs like 120 retail nowadays. The best retail card for under 100 is the 9600XT, though.

Is there anything I should be worried about with buying it refurbished, and will this card be able to play new games just fine?
Thanks for the help so far guys.

6600 man. wrong card.
6600gt is around $130-140 minimum.
6600 is around $100.

6600gt is 500mhz/1000mhz 8pipe 3vs 128 bit 128mb
6600 is 300mhz/500mhz 8pp,3vs 128 bit 128mb or 256mb
9800pro is 370/700?(forgot exact #s, mine is at 435/740) 8pp, 6vs 256bit 128 or 258mb

edit: if you havent learned by now, ignore all posts by hans030390. he's a broken jukebox nonstop sprouting off "Spend another $30-50 to get SM3." As usual with massively ignorant fanboys, ignore them.

I'd take a 6600gt over a 9800pro because the $30 is worth the performance game, not to mention it includes SM3, which you should make our own mind up if you want it or not.

Ive pretty much decided on the 9800pro, since I cant go over $100, but should i be worried about buying a refurbished card, would it be better to buy a new 9600xt?

Buy one from these forums. Most people guarantee non-doa and there is no tax. Trust me, it's safer than refurbs :)

Here's one from a good trader.

i have a spare BBA 9800 pro that I might be willing to part with if you decide thats the path you want to go down. I has 2.2 hynnix memory and r360 core. Anyways, Yea the 9800 pro is still a very strong card in todays games.

The 9800Pro would have been a much better choice over the 9600XT considering price/perf.

lol, while my 9800 pro is a way on RMA i picked up a ABIT 9550, which clocks to faster than a 9600XT...now thats value for money ;)

I miss my 9800 Pro a lot tho :(

The cooler on that refurb card looks kinda wimpy, it's not the same cooler as a regular 9800p has. I'd get one from the fs/ft section, and it will probably cost you less too.

The 6600gt does not have the horsepower for running SM3 material adequately.

Dammit, I purchased the refurb from Newegg because I jumped on the AG Neovo 19" LCD for $219 AR and my GF4 TI4200 128MB doesn't have DVI
