title says it all....

looks like i'm going to keep my current rig and update MB & VC to PCI-e. looking into either a 7900GTX, X1900XT, or 7950gx2...
 
For ATI it really dosn't matter all that much (just get one with a lifetime warrenty).

For Nvidia I'm sure that 99.9% of all AT members will agree on Evga.

X1900XT. You should be able to get them for ~$340ish (right?) and they can normally OC to 700/800 (1600) which is pretty much faster than any 7900GTX in most modern games.
 
well i've had BFG and EVGA. i like both of them and they both have lifetime warrenties but EVGA has the step-up program and the card came even more overclocked than the BFG variant but my BFG card was flashier and came with more software. and i havent used EVGA's phone tech support yet but i've used the BFG's and it was awesome. between the two, which ever is cheaper, you wont be dissapointed

Thats a good question and I would like to know the answer to that too.

The benches I saw I liked how the X1900XTX performed but I see so many people have the GTX in their builds. Why was it that you opted for the 7900GTX instead of the 1900XTX?

Just ask nitromullet, he'll tell you that no matter what kind of cooler is on it, having a company that doesn't handle their own RMA's isn't worth the risk of blowing XXX amount of dollars into the wind. If you do get one, get it through a site that handles its own RMA's or something, because the HIS company does not. (Stay away from Monarch as well, without paying $50 worth of insurance for your product, you might as well sleep with everything that moves as you're risks for getting screwed are about the same)

If you buy a card from Monarch, be prepared to give them the $50 for the 6-month warrantee. If you don't and you have issues with your HIS card you will have to deal with Jason at http://lexycomp.com/, who I think is the only guy that works in the RMA department. He's nice enough (I've talked to him like 10 times now), but I've had an HIS card in the RMA process for 3 months and I still haven't gotten the card back. Personally, I won't buy another HIS card on principal alone. Their site clearly states that they have a 1 year warrantee, but that you need to RMA the card with the retailer or distributor... This makes no sense at all.

Well, the 1900XT is a very popular card right now for very good reasons - Faster and cheaper. People who use the 7900GTX might do so for the following reasons:

1) The card runs much quieter under load. I personally think the cooler on the X1800/X1900XT's are well-designed except for the noise under load.

2) If you want to go dual-card, SLI is arguably more elegant than Crossfire right now. Related to that is that power requirements will be lower for two 7900's than for two X1900's

3) A lot of people just prefer nVidia because they've heard that "nVidia roxorz and ati suxorz" from their 14-year-old cousin who clearly knows everything about PC's. No offense intended to youngsters. 😛
 
Nvidia = eVGA, Leadtek, XFX, BFG

ATI = ATI, Sapphire, Powercolor

ASUS makes decent cards (and other things), but man they are overpriced. The ASUS brand name isn't worth %40 more, like they seem to think it is.

Well i just want the best bang for your buck. It seems the X1900XT is best for me @ $355.xx @newegg. I was looking into the 7950GX2 and was soo close to ordering it. But many seem to dislike the card. Everyone seems to agree that the x1900XT has the best image quality

4) AA modes are better than ATis AA modes. NV has the option to do MSAA/SSAA, with TRAA AND this could be done at 2x 4x 8x 16x. Lots of options. SSAA also aliases textures. Well to me, NVs AA modes looks better than ATis.

5) Good drivers and fast control panel unlike CCC.

6) Power consumption. A GTX consumes around 80W~ of power while the XTX consumes 120W~ (the 7900GT does 48W~)

7) Vendor support is outstanding, e.g from the likes of EVGA or BFG. Almost all vendors support lifetime warranty.

As you can see, both cards has its pros and cons. ATi for one can arguably be bought because of IQ. etc etc

DFI needs to get in there as well. They already make some of the best motherboards. I think ASUS and DFI are the two most popular brand of motherboards among enthusiasts.
 
Nvidia? I'd go for eVGA, the idea of having a warranty on my next graphics card is very attractive. (Stock cooling is never good enough, with the possible exception of the GTX cooler).

ATI? Pass
 
eVGA. Considering the fact that G80 is going to come out soon, I'm gonna get a 7950GX2 and step-up, and I'm probably only going to have to pay shipping. 😉
