Im building a new system next week, and everything on it is pretty good, except the video card which I will try and get something cheap to hold off untill mid summer when I will ugprade to the new line..heres my soon to be system specs

Athlon 64 3000+
MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R
512MB PC3200 DDR400
80GB SATA w/ 8MB Cache

The system is gonna be primarily a gaming rig, so I need to know what the best card to get for under $130 (pushing my budget already)

I first had in mind a 9600 Pro but looking at some of the benchmarks it only pulls about 10k on 3D Mark 2001, how about the Ti4800?

Don't base your purchase descision on ANY 3dmark, they are for comparison only, real-world gaming is another thing entirely. Get a 9600 pro, it fits the budget, and I gaurentee you it'll work for gaming, just gotta tone it down a bit, what do you expect for $130? new anyways.

9600 Pro 128MB 400core/600mem version. There are 9600 Pros 128MB that are actually 400core/400mem so watch out. ***cough Powercolor, Gecube cough***

actually, I was just able to get some more money, so now my budget is 200, what card should I get now? 5900xt?

you should be able to find something between the 9700 and 9800pro for 200$.

wait wait wait...you're gonna buy a $200 card to hold you off until mid-summer...like...a month or two? just save your $$ and get an x800 or 6800.

though the 9800p should last you...if you get one of those you won't have to upgrade mid-summer anymore...and you won't be buying a slow card for $130.

He's not gonna get an X800 or 6800 (except maybe the 6800NU or X800SE, which are not gonna be worlds faster than a 9800Pro) for under $300 anytime soon. For $200, go for a 9800Pro. You won't be disappointed. If you want to save a few bucks, the 5900XT is also a viable choice, but it's generally a bit slower and doesn't overclock as well.

if you have 200 bucks to spend now and still be able to upgrade by mid summer like u said then by all means go get the 9800 pro 128.😀

Xafgoat, I see you have an IC7-G. This is the MB I am planning on purchasing for my next system. Have you had any problems with the 9700pro with this MB? I also am looking for a VC for under $200. Lastly, what make is your 9700pro. Thanx for any insight up front.
