Can't argue this one. A 6600GT only beats this in Doom3 which is a big deal if you're planning to play a lot of Quake. But, other than that, this is a markedly better card. Don't know how long this price will last though.

Look at the brand connect3d I woudn't buy it low quality PCB and components.

Do you know something about Connect3D that we don't? If so, please share. Their cards come with a 2 year warranty and they moved a TON of X800XLs over the past couple weeks form the Monarch deal and I haven't heard one bad report yet.

hes right...connect3D is one of the best brands around!! i would recommend to anyone goin for a XL to get a connect3D unless u know otherwise?? 😉

to heroofpellinor....the 6600gt is not a competitor to the x800...u can get 6600gts for even $160 while that card is nearly $250 so there is no comparison between the 2 whatsoever.
u can compare it to the 6800NU though !!!

The x800 WAS suposed to be a competitor to a 6600gt, and it would heve been a better choice if it actually sold for it's $200 msrp. But $250 is too much, even if it is a 256mb card, I'd rather have a 128mb x800 for <$200. Since it's not available, the 6600gt is the best card for under $200.

To the OP, the future belongs to s939 and PCI-E, so unless you already have a high end agp card, I'd rather spend the money on an A64 s939 setup and get a 6600gt, it's a good card for the money, and will last at least another year unless you play at 1600*1200 resolution.

Remember that PCI-E video cards support SLI! two years from now, you can stick another video card into your motherboard and you have two going for you.... the only thing im not too sure about is if they have to be the same model to work. Either way though, the 6600GT PCI-E is your best bet.

Hi,

I need to find out what's the best video card for gaming under U$200 (or C$250)
And is AMD XP3000+ & NF2 platform with AGP good enough for games for 2 years?
Should I opt for AMD 64 platform with PCI express cards?

Currently I'm thinking to opt for AMD xp3000+ & ASUS A7N8X-X & Radeon 9800 Pro.
any other/better option in terms of price/performance ratio but good for at least 2 years of gaming

thanks in advance

YJ

i cant belive you asked that

6600gt all the way

upgrading to an A64 would definitely be great..but if you're tight on budget..keep your current setup, its fine for at least the next 2 years...just go for 6600gt and 1gb of ram(if necessary)

6600gt pwns the 9800 pro, even with the 256 mb memory. it has new superscalar gpu architecture and faster specs. no, a 250 card is not better in this case: a 6800nu for teh same price is something ati has to watch out for if they wish to sell the older card for taht much.

FYI, I think $200 128MB plain X800s are showing up on NewEgg. I'd check reviews to see how they stack up to $200 6800s and <$200 6600GTs.

I went with

939 3000+
MSI K8N Neo4-F (NF4 chipset)
MSI GFX6600GT pcie

parts are in order now.

hope it's a good gaming rig.

thanks all for feedback.

Yeah.... I got 1 Gig of mem indeed. 🙂
Haven't seen it in action yet though.
Just had little trouble of freeze and turned out the CL timing was a bit off.
I loosened it up as the RAM specifies to CL3 and all went well.

Way to resurect a dead thread. The OP said he already bought the stuff, so it's a little too late to be giving advice. Personally, though, I think he should have went with this x800 instead of a 6600gt, for <$200.
