hey there
wondering which card i should get for my new computer if i plan on encoding my VHS tapes into VCD or DIVX. i don't have a regular video card yet so i'm thinking of one that can stand as a good video card for gaming etc, and be able to encode my VHS as well. looking for the best bang for the buck.

thanks peoples:cool:

Look into the AIW 7500 from ATi maybe there will be a hot deal or a good price in FS/FT. if you want to spend more then maybe the 8500dv or AIW8500.

what is the difference between the 7500 and 8500? would it just be the gaming quality or does it effect the video capture as well. would the speed or quality be effected?

what is the difference between the 7500 and 8500?

7500 = DX7 hardware support
8500 = DX8.1 hardware support.

AIW 7500 has an analog tuner, and Rage Theater chip embedded in the core 64MB DDR clocked 260/180 mem/core
8500DV has a tuner in silicon and a seperate Rage Theater Chip, firewire port and 64MB DDR clocked 230/190 mem/core
AIW 8500 has an analog tuner seperate Rage Theater Chip and 128MB DDR clocked 275/275 mem/core

All 3 cards are single head, dual display. Until the recent gamma fix the AIW 7500 had superior TV-out, now they should be similar (very good BTW) The silicon tuner on the 8500DV generates more heat, but may have a bit better IQ and faster channel tuning, despite the seperate Rage Theater chip, video capture is ~ equal between the cards AFAIK.
