best video card for around 200 - 250 dollars ?

whoa guys, I must have missed something. The 6800 is going to be 300 bucks? I am confused or something, lol, someone straighten me out.

anyone know how much the ATI x800 will be? I cant wait until next week to find out! =D

Well if u see my previous post, I said that if he's to pay 300$(and especially for the 256mb 9800pro) then he should go for the 6800.
But if he isn't and 200$ is really the money he wants to spend, then 9800pro is the best value for him.
Waiting and waiting is always bringing the prices down, but sometime he has to buy a card...
As for the 6800 beeing 50% faster than the 9800pro I guess we should have to wait and see. Especially now that the low core/mem specifications are known.

Ridiculous. 100 dollars Is NOTHING. For the bang/buck ratio you get with the 6800 NU, it absolutely makes the 9800Pro look like .05 frames/dollar.

Be smart, get an extra hundred bucks. At the least, get a 9800 Pro when it comes down more.

FYI, Radeon 9800 Pros are all now ~160 dollars on Ebay. Forget Retail stores, when Geforce 6800/X800 comes out, people will be selling their cards for ~100.

Do u have any benchies that I can see? How are you jumpin to conclusions without evidence?
And consequently how can you reach to a price/perf ratio for 6800?
9800 pro's price/perf ratio is the best for now, and it all comes down to what 6800 will offer.
Then we will do some math and see which is better, don't you agree?

Huh? The first card I linked to was the SE model, but the 2nd was the standard 9800 nonpro, which at $173 is a better buy than 9800 pro at 210 IMO, without the risk of the softmod.

Sorry, it was very late in the morning and I needed to go to bed. Could have sworn I saw a second SE card there, but no biggie.

I don't know where you're seeing 9800 pros on ebay for $160...I watch ebay almost like a hawk, and I rarely see them dip under $185-190 in final price, unless if they were used. Even then, there aren't a lot of those at the moment, and would he really want a used card? Don't forget ebayers attempt to make up in lack of their final price by destroying you with high shipping.

Dont get the 9800SE. Reasons:
1) 128 bit memory bus on most (probably the one theyd send u)
2) only modifyable on the OLDER "L" shaped memory cards

I could see 150 easy. I mean u can get them for ~185ish now if u hunt enough, and i dont think theyll take them off the shelves for along time. I just dont see y they would.

my impression was that they usually kill the top end cards, ie 9800pro, and replace them with the low-end crappy versions of the new generation. like they never made the ti4600 lowend, they just "replaced" them with gf4mx cards. so they WOULD take them off the shelves to push the next generation cards.

They do that so they only have to manufacture 1 core. Saves them money. That's why you can find 9800 xt cores on 9800 pros nowadays.

The x800se will probably replace the 9800 pro at a $250 price point or so when its released. But I doubt we will see 9800 pros at $150 for at least 6 months.

No they cannont run it that high at a good framerate (def not 60). And the 9800pro isnt the top card. Its the 2nd top end card. I suspect them to fall within the 6 months that someone said above, and i think they will still have them around for around 2 yrs on pricewatch to buy (atleast)

Where did you see that? HL2 isn't released yet.

Theyve had benches on em. i think one of em was at www.xbitlabs.com for the gf 6800u review and was listed under "Highly anticipated DX9 game #1" and #2.

Depends on the size of the monitor. I myself have a 17'' monitor that can do 1600x1200 at 85Hz. I'm in no need whatsoever to use that resolution.

You can find retailers who will specifically sell the 256bit SE cards
Certain model numbers are built this way...one of which is the C3 powercolor model
The board doesn't make any difference in performance, I've softmodded them before and they perform the same as "real" 9800 pros
You just have to know where to look and what you're doing
