The x800xl offers very good bang for the buck.

For pci-e the x800XL for $~300 will run better than any nvidia card on the source engine.

The next step up would be the x850xt which goes for $499.

I suggest you get the XL unless you want the best of the best.

I would get a 6800 (possibly a 6800 gt) you can get a 6800GT for $300, PLUS it has Shader model 3.0...cmon, honestly, the 6800gt will be more future proof that an x800xl, it is as fast as x800xl, and isn't much more than an x800xl.

X800XL, it would be better for HL2 and its mods. Also, it is much cheaper than the 6800GT PCI-E. Though the 6800GT AGP is approaching the X800XL's price.

X800XL, SM3 is a no issue plus ATI's card benchmark faster on the games you listed

By the time SM3 becomes an issue, the cards currently with it will be just as handicapped at playing the games that need it as the current ATi offerings. Get yourself an x800

Not when you put two of them into SLI their not. He didn't specify any prices so a 6800ultra will be nearly as fast as the x850xt (not the platinum) in source engine games and SLI will be much faster (i.e. AA and such at 1600 x 1200)

In a really big budget so the best for the price i cant really afford to spend 500 on a videocard looking to spend about 900 on a 939 system
