Best video card for $200-$250?

The best card I've seen for that money is a Gigabyte X800XL @ $252 on Newegg, but its out of stock at the moment.

Monarch has the ATI AIW X800XT for $286 with a $20 MIR. Newegg has the same deal, but at closer to $300. The Microcenter one looks really good if you don't need AIW though. Is the X850XT a lot faster than the X800XT?

If your looking for gaming performance the X850XT is faster, its GPU & RAM are clocked higher & I believe ATI made some other improvements as well, also a lot of the AIW cards are clocked lower then standard versions of the same GPU.
If you really want the AIW features though, thats a good deal too.

so 250 max...

6800GT (used, new if you are lucky)
6800GS
X800XL
X850XT (saw a deal somewhere for 250 - forgot if it was either in agp or pci-e)

or if you want current gen hardware for 50 bucks more...

7800GT from evga. its 299 at the egg. just posted this in another thread to someone. that is only there if you want to spend more money. its up to you basically.

good luck!

I would wait a couple of weeks and see what comes around with the 6800GS AGP that is supposed to be out. At around $200, this is clearly a killer value for the huge amount of people with the same type of thread. If you can score a used 6800 series of X800 series from FS/FT, it would be good as well.

I believe the X800GTO and GTO2 are only unlockable when they are PCI-E.

I'm waiting for the 6800GS. The 6800GT seems to be overpriced still and the 6800Ultra is VERY overprice.
