What's the best 'bang for your buck' video card cooler? What is everyone using and what are your temps? I'm looking to buy a new one, the stock cooler is loud and bad.
 
zalman vf700 is best espically since it is 1 step below water cooling(copper version) but it is very heavy. alcu version is slightly worse cooling but much lighter. to save even more money, get a nv silencer.
vf700 cu for max cooling/oc
vf700 alcu for compromise
nvsilencer for value

QFT, I am getting 46c on idle with my zalman on the evga 6800gt, what a great product. The NV Silencer is also a great product...and it is really inexpensive too but there have been issues with the installation for some people, I tried forever to get mine to fit right and I really never did but if it does fit right it does the job intended. IMHO go with the zalman you wont ever regret it...never
 
hows the installation? easy? if it's as easy as the zalman northbridge heatsinks I'm grabbing one, because that's as simple as it gets.
 
I LOVE MY VF-700CU. It dropped my idle temps from 56C to 45C, and I couldn't play games without having a fan blowing into my case, now I can play games with the case closed, and with the graphic card overclocked to 590/1200 without artifacts. i'm going to try to get 590/1210 soon. It's VERY easy to put the heatsink on, getting the old one off was my problem. I had to cut the cheap plastic spring things off to get the old cooler off, then I used 91% rubbing alcohol and a q-tip to clean off the old Thermal Interface Material (TIM) off of the GPU. Once it was all ready, then I put on the TIM that came with the zalman, spread it around the chip, and then screwed the zalman on. On a difficulty scale, 10 being the most difficult, for installing it, I would give putting the zalman on a 3/10. The whole process (including getting the old cooler, TIM, and ramsinks off), I would give a 6/10. It's still not too bad really.
 
The VF700-CU was just about the easiest aftermarket cooler I have ever installed.....and I am female😉
