Best video capturing software

i bought a cheap PCI tuner to convert my VHS to DVD and it does work but now im looking for a really good program to use. I tired Dscaler which was buggy and didnt work that great (i think its because im using Vista64). The recordings came out crappy no matter what settings i used. When i wasn't recording and just watching it looked fine. I also tired Virtualdub which was a little more promising but i couldn't even figure out where my saved videos were ending up.

So whats the hands down best program to use for this kind of thing. Im willing to pay for the software if its that much faster/better than any freeware.

I still use Vegas Video 7.0d. My setup is different tho'...I plug the OUT of my amp into my Elura 100, then run the camcorder into my Firewire port. You can download a trial of v9.0 here.
