Best Video Cables?

Anyone know if there are any differences between the various brands of component video cables? Or for that matter, A/V cables in general?
Which brand is best?

At the local Circuity City, the Monster cables seemed to be a lot more expensive than the other brands. Are Monster cables considered the best?

Or should I just get the cheapest ones I can find?

Any help would be appreciated

Put it this way, you need equipment proportionally expensive to Monster Cable to be able to see any advantage to having them.

Monster cables are considered to be the most hyped and overpriced cables on the market. They make for good profit margins for retailers, though.

For component video cables...just be sure to get cables with quality shielding. And don't use the cables used for audio L/R. They weren't designed for the bandwidth required by component video.

Darn tootin. And darn, i was hoping that i wouldn't see the word "monster" in the message body when i clicked on this thread.

I have a set of Monster component cables for my Wega.

I like them, but then again I paid $20 for a cable that retails for $60.

At $20 they were a great buy, at $60 I'd have been crazy to buy them.

Get good cables, but don't get Monster unless you get them used (ie someone else took the loss) or you have a friend with an employee discount who can get them for dirt cheap.

Also, let me say that I once had a guy at Circuit City tell me that Monster Brand NiMH batteries were SPECIALLY designed to be better than the competitors....yet it had a rating of 1600mah....the competitor batteries on the shelf that were $10 CHEAPER were 1800mah. The guy kept going on and I literally walked away from him without even saying another word. 😀 Go to big lots and buy your cables....

Ok...that was a bit harsh. Just keep in mind that a cable is a cable is a cable. The connectors are going to be a little nicer, but as long as they've been terminated correctly and the wires/connectors have low enough resistance and are shielded properly, they'll be fine and neither you, nor your equipment will be able to tell any difference. As long as they are terminated and shielded properly, it's like looking at two different brands of fly swatters and trying to figure out which one is better... 😉

I was able to find some OEM Acoustic Reasearch cable about a year and a half ago.

THey were like 12 bucks for the l/r and 10 for the S-Video.

I can't remember where I bought them but you could try a google search.

*fact* that increases their quality by 0.00% and their price by 400.00% *fact*

Acoustic Research Performance Series, Radio Shack Gold Series. Both lines will do just fine and wont strain your wallet either.

I got a new 6' long component cable made by NXG on Ebay, paid $14 including shipping. Do not buy Monster cables, unless you have gazillion of $$$ to waste.
