I'll be building a new PC soon based on the epox 8k7a and t-bird 1.4. Based on early reviews/screenshots/videos of Microsoft's flight simulator 2002, what do you think would be the lowest cost card that will allow playability (>30fps) at good quality?

I'm thinking about an mx400, but I'm not sure if it will be a bottleneck to the game. Help me find some deals on a good card!

Here's a link for pics/videos:

Scrap the Mx400.
Anand did an article on it, and the benchmarks are not much better than teh MX200.
He said "Buy the Mx200 until the Mx400 is all your retialers have."

If you're going to spend $100 on a card, at least get the GF2 GTS so you can get DDR Ram for the Vid Card.

NFORCE, RADEON 8000 I know are aroudn the corner too.

Calpha, actually that's not what Anand said in his review at all. The actual quote was this:
"Our suggestion for GeForce2 MX 400 cards? Get them only after all GeForce2 MX cards are gone."

The older card that was just called the MX and the newer GeForce MX 400 are almost identical in performance. The MX200 is much slower and probably not intended for the 3d gaming market.

Thanks for the other info.

LOOL @ calpha - if you quote, then do it properly. :)

Anyway, he's right to some point - the MX400 line is getting somewhat dated. I'm running a "classic" MX (ie basically a MX400), and up to now, everything worked, but I wouldn't bet FS 2002 runs smooth on it (that is, in mid resolution at high quality).

Ok, cool. I'm currently looking at the MSI starforce 831 (geforce2 pro). It's only $20 more than the 815 which is a gts.

Thanks for the help.

Get a card that can do FSAA, as it will aid your experience od flight sims in general. A GF2 GTS would be good, but there is better FSAA implementation in the GF3 range of cards. Yeah, MS delayed Flight Simm 2002 to remove the Twin Towers. This just adds to the reality of it all if you know what I mean. :frown:

Yeah I had read about that. They've probably already deleted the towers, I'm sure that didn't take much time. The delay now is just because they don't think it's appropriate to release it. I'd say that it's a good decision to delay, even though the videos were so amazing that I am really looking forward to playing it.
