Best Value and performance for around $100 in newegg?

I'm on the market for a new HD, looking at 1TB capacity since less than that would make little sense for me, also I'd rather buy it from newegg than somewhere else.

It looks like they don't carry much HDs with this capacity, I found a WD Caviar Green at $90 with free shipping, but I read reviews of the green line and it appears the performance is lacking, then there's this samsung for $100, though I've never had a Samsung drive and I'm terrified of it failing on me, anyone have an opinion on the reliability of Samusng HDs, and Hitachis too for that matter?

There's also a Seagate in there, which was my favorite brand but since their recent firmware fiasco I'd be hesitant to buy one.

Any suggestions or opinions appreciated, I might consider ordering from somewhere else as well, though I prefer newegg because I've always shopped with them no problem.

I bought a samsung 320 GB (3.0GB/s) SATA hard drive 2 years ago and haven't had any problems. Very quiet drive.

Thanks, I'm picky about HDs after 2 on a row dying on me.

I found a caviar black at $129 I think, I must suck at searching newegg 😕 looks like this one's a winner 🙂

i bought a wd black 1tb no problem since i bought it, also bought a 7200.11 (i updated firmware) also no problm. the seagate is quieter but slower than wd. I can hear the wd black when it's working.

Samsung F1
Hitachi 7k1000.B (make sure it's a "B", thats the three platter drive)
WD Caviar Black

Any of the three will be very good. I might order from ZZF instead though, seems like newegg has not been packaging their hard drives well for shipping. ZZF seems to have better padding around the HD.
