Been a while since I posted on this thread...

My 570 gave up the ghost last night so I got a price match at bestbuy and got a GTX 970 SSC AX 2.0 for $319...

Running like butter on hot toast right now...

I like my 970 SSC. Hope yours over clocks well too.

Well I'm loving my 290 quiet as a mouse. Even when under load it is quiet. Performs well at 2k also plus being able to enable a few settings that would make my 770 tank in performance made me very happy with my choice. As a 1080p card (im at 2k now) it is quite powerful too. Played a few taxing games and it never rose over 75. Afterburner gives me erratic fan speed readings but when i check the card to actually see if its behaving like what msi said its totally different.

At 1080P (which is a huge portion of the market) the GTX 970
has excellent performance.
I am with the OP, I want to play games at Max (or near) and enjoy the experience.
I do not sit and bench. My card sits happily at almost 1500 boost
and never gives any issues.
Quiet, quick and decent power consumption, whats not to like.

I'm happy with the card, it was convenient to get, I didn't want to sit two days without the use of my PC, I've only ever had NVIDIA cards and so for this one is running quiet, cool and fast...

I don't buy GPUs to benchmark them, If I can play a game with maxed out settings, I am happy...

Didn't mean to start a thread war...

Ah just ignore his salt. Guy will write a book on how wrong you are for buying something you wanted. At least he hasn't called you an idiot, yet :\.

Preload for MGS5 I believe is live (I didn't get to check). I'm just assuming everyone is an MGS fan :D So start downloading!

Do I need to have played the others to enjoy this one?

If this post was a jab at RS I think you have things mistaken as the guy has always recommended the 970 for the low end and the 980ti for the top. He never said the guy made the wrong decision.

Enjoy your card!

Did OP mention he is not interested in dx12 games? Keep an eye on DX12 async compute because you will have to upgrade soon, when nv releases compatible card.

If I had US pricing here I would swim in gtx970s '80s and 980 ti's..

Omg yes. This is the epic tie in that will connect big boss to solid snake and in essences kick off the metal gear series.

If you haven't played the others there will.be tons of crap you won't understand but the game may still be fun.

1-4 is just the numbered versions. Again, this is like the end of the series (as far as we know) so, there is MG1+2, then the 4 MGS, then the Handheld Peacewalker and Portable Ops....

Basically, there is gonna be a whole crap load of story events you might not understand with this game if you don't play the others. They are not required to have fun (MGS is the GTA of hide n seek games, I spent hours on Ground Zero messing around without doing anything related to the mission).

But story wise, playing the others will boost your enjoyment as you'll get events that have been missing in the whole story arc - how Big Boss goes rogue, and what Kid Snake is up to.

TL;DR:
Perhaps no, you can probably read a quick plot summary of MGS3, Portable Ops and Peacewalker which were released on PSP. This game is suppose to be chronological after those two and set before Metal Gear 1+2, which are both set before Metal Gear Solid 1+2+4.

You won't need the background info to enjoy the game, but you'll probably have a lot of questions in regards to the plot.

As of now those before mgs5 only ground zeroes. The other two were psp games recently ported to ps3. Of the ones after mgs5 you can get metal gear 1+2 on a nes emulator or go full experience and get an msx emulator. Mgs1+2 are available as legit copies but mgs4 is currently only ps3.

Personally sad they didn't release the 25yr collection for PC.

Agree... that was an unnecessary attack. RS has contributed immensely to this board and he actually likes 970's.

OP IMO you bought a solid card. Enjoy it :)
