I don't know if the OP is looking for the same thing but I've been looking around on the Internet for a utility program that will clean my registry and hard drive of unwanted or needed junk. I've used Symantec Systemworks for a couple years but I want to see if there is anything else that is better. I've tried Iolo System Mechanic Pro and it crashed the second day I used it. I've tried to use Ecleaner (freeware) but that software couldn't install.

I would appreciate it if others would jump in and post their experiences about what works for them and why that particular utility app worked for them.

BTW, PERL is not what I was looking for🙂🙁😉.

You could try Crap Cleaner, I also use Tuneup Utilities '06

perl could do what you ask...you just have to know how to ask 😉


I use perl for everything, It hangs on my utility belt of tools for many many things. Not a better "do anything, go anywhere" tool.

First of all, my apologies to the OP for hijacking this thread but I figure since the thread is in the same vein as what I was interested in.

Thanks mc866 for suggesting Tuneup Utilities 2006. I downloaded it and installed the trial program. From what I see, it is what I am looking for and then some. I'll just see how it goes in the coming days if it is really right for me.

nweaver, PERL is not my cup of tea because I just don't want to make time to learn how to manipulate it to do my bidding. These pre-canned programs that have the right mix of features without the fuss and muss is what I am looking for.

I've used the Tuneup Utilities 2006 for a few days and found it met my needs and purchased it. It is an excellent utility for cleaning up my drive and streamlining windows. Thanks for suggesting it!
