I have a good friend whose civic was just totaled out and she needs to find a car ASAP. She's looking for a reasonably low mileage DD (4 doors preferable, 4 seats required) which she can get a warranty on so it'll need to be CPO.

She has a tendency to lean towards import cars, but if I can find something nice enough I can maybe talk her into domestic. Needs to be within pickup distance of 75201.

Thus far I've found a few Jetta's and a Civic hybrid. Any other suggestions?

im sure you could find a newer Malibu for that price. in Dallas you should have access to hundreds of cars that fit your criteria.

I'd say CPO Accord. The warranty on those things is pretty nice. CPO Altimas also have a nice powertrain warranty too.

Since the 2011 redesigned Hyundai Sonatas are hitting dealer lots, most seem to be blowing out the 2010. You can easily get a brand new 2010 Sonata (with plenty of warranty) for $17.5. By the same token, used 08 and 09 Sonatas are also dirt cheap.

2010 Sonatas are going for ~16.5 sticker. There is nothing in your price range that will beat the warranty and the size of the car.

If you are looking at good mileage, I don't have much good recommendations, as I'm mostly familiar with RWD sedans form my research, but the CTS nonetheless is my recommendation. You can easily get them CPO. I was cross shopping TL and CTS, but I just had to have RWD so TL had to go off the list. If CTS is not her style, try G35 CPO though that's harder to find at the price point but not too hard.

The TL has a rebuild title but this is what the seller says:

This car is original Tennessee. The woman that owned it got in a minor accident.. the only parts that were replaced were the right rim right headlight right fender and front bumper. There was no engine damage and the airbags did not deploy. I bought the car fixed from a dealership here in the DFW area about 6 months ago. We are looking to get an SUV now.

I'm still mildly interested, but I'll have to see what she says.

Full dealership inspection is your friend to verify if all is good now.

But resale will hurt from this, it's a balance you have to make to see if the deal is worth it.

There has to be more to the story. That's like $3k in damage, no insurance company would've totaled the car. My bet is major suspension damage.

For a car to get written off like that the damage has to exceed a certain %-value, then either the owner bought it back and fixed it (likely on the cheap) or it was sold through auction and fixed (likely on the cheap)

Yeah, something here doesn't make sense. The only way it could be the way he says is if the original owner pocketed the insurance money and sold the car as-is across state lines. Texas would have titled it rebuilt I think. Still, either the seller is lying or he was lied to.

I wouldn't touch rebuilt titles unless you have mechanical experience. I think the new Forte is pretty good value for ~$15k, if she wants new. I just got a used 06 TSX for $18k with 27k miles, so she can definitely shop around and get good deals.
