I know the reason could be a combo of the poll options, but if voting i'd recommend picking the most important to you.

I'll eventually likely add a 2nd 290x to my rig that sits below my 54" Plasma.

Overkill likely.

Wondering what gets the ball rolling for you guys when you decide to get into top end multi GPU setups for gaming and how worth the time/expense was for upping the ante on your gameplay experience.

I'd bet you have a Pioneer Kuro or something similar. And I envy you...

Multiple extended screens for doing things myself, not even gaming much atm.

I bet that will kick out the jams when called to.

It's a very nice Panasonic, blacks are great and motion is good. I got pretty noticeable banding on the Sony LCD that I replaced. The elimination of that distracting banding along with very deep blacks on the plasma make it a great display for couch and gamepad gaming.

The Kuros i've seen are better, but not by much.

Needs the option for maximum average FPS for 120hz gaming (minimums will be dictated by the CPU)

for racing/flight games/sims triple screen is the best,
for most other games 4K I think,
for multiplayer higher/more consistent frame rate

Multiscreen for productivity as well as gaming. Ain't just for racing/flight/sim games. I can tell you that after I went triple-wide 1080p, I rarely ever got backstabbed again in multiplayer FPSes, as just one example. :)

A i3 and a 290x That is a horrible upgrade. i3 is a pos chip , while 290x can get you watching dogs with their stuff so also nvidia side. Bottleneck big time. Get a new CPU.
you got whack response. i3 can barely instead of getting 80fps you will get 30fps..or 40fps.. realy that big...

stop worrying about video card. Get it ready you might as well return the card if your not going to upgrade CPU. shesez

Drop settings till i get a required 60 or better, some games this can't be helped but most i do fine with little sacrifice to graphics quality.

Arma 3 multiplayer at over 50fps (often I even maintain 60+fps) with max fxaa
and pretty graphics options except view distance at a whopping 2560/1440.
Answer number four with a bit of number one.

Gaming @ 640x480 with vsync off

Think the only issue is that your uber awesome rig is gonna have trouble with that resolution, gonna have to drop it down to 400x300 if you want to have a excellent experience without any vram related issues.
