I was wondering what you guys think would give me the best performance boost in WoW for my 2nd computer.

Currently has athlonXP 2100+, 512 meg sdram, gforce5600U

would it give me more bang to go 1.5Gb DDr or something like a gforce6600 video.. theyre roughly the same price...

Which are you most disappointed with:
Flight performance and to a small extent city performance (RAM related)
overall visual quality (video card related)

Pick which you would like to improve most and head in that direction.

I played with 512MB RAM at one point, and a gig brings a considerable improvement (though I didn't really see much of a difference with 2GB vs. 1GB). Though I never played with a card as slow as a 5600U, I played with a 9700 non-pro and things still could be set pretty high in terms of video settings. Probably in your shoes I'd go with RAM, but you should go with what you feel you would appreciate the improvement most from.

well...i also thought about going 512 more megs sdram and something like a 9700 pro but i didnt know how much of an upgrade a 9700 pro would be vs. a 5600U

With my 9700 non-pro WoW did pretty well at 1280x1024 with setting in the medium-high range with no AA/AF.

The 9700 pro is a healthy improvement over a 5600U, and probably comparable performance to a 6600 (non-GT), if not a little faster than the 6600.

Do you often minimize the game to browse thottbot or have much other stuff running in the background?

If so, go for the ram for sure...

Does your PVP experience consist of running around looking for the opposing team and then lagging out for 20 seconds of harddrive thrasing when you actually find them and then coming back as a corpse ?

In that case, go the RAM ;p
