Rechargeable alkaline (ex. Rayovac Renewals) vs. NiMH:

1) MP3-CD Player
2) Palm
3) Lego Mindstorms RCX
4) TI-83+
5) TV remote control
6) MP3 Player (not the CD player)

1. NiMH
2. Dunno
3. Dunno
4. Don't go rechargeable.
5. Don't go rechargeable.
6. NiMH

I say don't go rechargeable on the two because they are such low drain I don't think it's worth it.

2) I've had good luck with quality NiMH in my Visor.
3) NiMH good here, too. The voltage is lower than alkaline, but they're capable of cranking a little more juice, so it kinda balances out. I usually use external power when possible.
4) Used NiCd and NiMH in my overclocked TI-92 😎, just dandy.
5) Rechargables not worth the trouble, alkalines last for friggin' ever.

On my TI-89 a set of four Duracell Ultras lasts me over a year. But then somebody told me that the Ultras are only better on high-drain devices and would actually be worse in a calculator. I have no idea if they knew what they were talking about or not.

I'm still on my original set of alkalines for my TI-89, which I put in there in the fall of 2001. :Q

When I was using alkalines for my Palm IIIxe, however, I noticed that the Ultras had a significantly lower lifespan than the regulars. But maybe if I had one of those fancy new color PDAs and not an old school Palm the Ultras would be better.
