Best time to eat fruit?

I've heard conflicting things about this one. Some say eating fruits after a meal helps in the digestion and can be substituted for a dessert. Others say that it's best eaten on an empty stomach because fruits are digested much faster compared to meals and eating them after a meal only reduces their nutritional value.

Do we have any scientific evidence for the second point of view? :hmm:

When you're awake?

Fruit is one of the best components to ANY diet.

After meals is a good idea. Often will have an orange after dinner and it helps digestion.

How about never? I get fruit triggered (among other things) oral allergies.

Processed grapefruit juice is good with any meal though.

When you're hungry.

i respectfully disagree. eating fruit when you're hungry is a bad idea because you'll still still be hungry. you're better off eating your fruit servings with a meal, with yogurt, or with a glass of milk or something. yes, certain fruits are high in fiber and fiber decreases hunger, but fructose ramps up hunger. that's why it's hard to feel full after eating fruit... you still end up wanting something else to snack on. also, fruit only takes about 30 mins or so to clear your stomach.

fruit is great for your body and you should eat it daily, but don't eat it on an empty stomach or you'll be eating a ton of it and you could end up with heartburn, diarrhea, or an upset stomach. eat it with something, like a little bit of yogurt (not diet or nonfat yogurt) for a snack. you want the fats from the yogurt... they're good for you and will help you not be hungry.

I eat fruit when I want candy. Pink Lady apples are especially tart/sweet and very tasty. Never eat it on an empty stomach though because it just makes my stomach grumble and makes me hungrier. Good snack though.

I remember seeing a chain email that mentioned not eating fruit on anything other than an empty stomach for whatever reason. It went on to say don't drink cold water with meats because it'll make the grease harden and cause cancer. lol. It also mentioned fruit juices as being bad and gave apple juice as an example, "The body is meant to eat one apple at a time, when you drink a glass of apple juice, it's like eating 4 apples at once!" lololol

you are right.

aren't grapes in season right now, too?

Sigh. I was hoping the collective smarts of ATOT could provide a link to a scientific study or something to prove/disprove the two points of view I mentioned in the OP....I guess I overestimated the brains of ATOT.

Are you telling me that I can no longer use ATOT for cloud computing and research purposes??? For all I know, ATOT is a smarter version of Wolfram Alpha and can seemingly beat the Turing test.

So what are your "specs", mosh?
