Best Time to Buy a Laptop?

I will be buying a laptop for school in the $800 to $1200 range before my next semester starts on January 18, and I'm wondering when is the best time to buy, generally? Will I find the best deals between now and Christmas? Or are there generally better deals right after Christmas?

I recommend you try to get one thru your school. They have major discounts. My nephew who is a freshmen attending my alumni (cal state fresno), got a Dell inspiron 8600 fully loaded with a P-M (donathan) 1.6ghz, 60gb hd, 5200fx 64mb video, dvd/cd-rw, and 15.4 wxga display for only $1200. They also thru in academic editions of Office 2003.

If you can't get a good discount I recommend this:

http://www.newegg.com/app/view...=34-115-158&DEPA=3, great student notebook, only $819.

Some credit unions also have special deals for students on dell, compaq and gateway machines. My credit union offers discouts on Gateway and Compaq. Its a deal they have with them and you can get a student discount on top of that.

I'm not sure how you would go about doing it though Dell but when my brother started going to the University Of Buffalo a few years ago they had a deal with HP. Although he got one from Best Buy, CPU, Monitor, Printer combo and it was a bit cheaper than what the school was offering. His came with a DVD-ROM and a faster CD-RW as well.
