Not sure about "cheapest", but the best tasting that I've come across is the (balance?) Protein Plus vanilla yogurt flavor. It actually almost tastes *good*.

Beef Jerky has worked as long as man figured out you can salt and dry out meat, I can't stand these new fangled protein bars.

The best protein bars I've had are the Detour/U-Turn bars (30g protein, ~300 calories). I used to get them from GNC for $20-30 dollars for a pack of 12. You might be able to get them cheaper online, though.

I've now switched to EAS Advant-edge bars (25g, 230c), and prefer the peanut butter ones. I tried the chocholate chip flavor, but it was terrible. You can get a 12-pack from Sam's Club for $14.

The Detour bars are definately better tasting than the EAS bars, but not worth double the price...especially for only 5g more protein.

Best bars are the Lebrada Lean Body bars. Chocolate Chip Mint is awesome. Detour/U-Turn bars are glorified candy bars, and some tests have indicated their protein content falls far short from what is stated on the product label. I personally hate the aftertaste they leave.

It's Labrada, from the famous bodybuilder Lee Labrada, say after me L-a-b-r-a-d-a.

And they all suck, high in calorie content compared to size and too high GI.

Remember why you are eating them, because you are working out like a pro and have to get as many protein calories down your throat as possible.

I have been eating Power bars and they are pretty good for protein bars, and CostCo sells them.
The Vanilla flavor is a bit sweet and artificial tasting.

Second this. And these bars have the highest quality protein in them, unlike most bars. But there is a bit of sugar in these bars, so I'd only use them post-workout when your body craves sugar anyhow.
