Guys, right now, what's the best tablet out there for mobile gaming?

The best tablet/phone optimized for mobile gaming as well? (like Modern Combat 4, etc.)

What's the tablet that has the best GPU? (I know Tegra 4 is around the corner but I only want to know what's out now)

What are synthetic benchmarks?

What's the opposite of synthetic benchmarks?

Are these synthetic benchmarks?

GFXBench 2.7 T-Rex HD C24Z16 - Offscreen (1080p):

GFXBench 2.7 T-Rex HD C24Z16 - Onscreen:

GFXBench 2.7 T-Rex HD Fixed Timestep - Onscreen:

Is gfxbench.com pretty reliable?

Thanks in advance!

I think the Nexus 7 is pretty amazing. It has a Nvidia Tegra 3 GPU.

Thanks for the reply :)

But from what I've read so far, the iPad 4 beats the Nexus 7 in GPU performance.

The pricing is great though (199.99)

It is true that the SGX 544MP4 is better than the Tegra 3, right?

Nexus 10 or iPad 4.

nexus_10_vs_the_world_3.jpg

Nexus 10 beats the iPad 4 in:
  • CPU; Cortex A15 vs Cortex A9
  • RAM; 2GB vs 1GB
  • Display quality; 1600p 300PPI PLS display vs 264PPI IPS LED display
  • Front facing camera; 1.9MP vs 1.2MP
  • NFC; NFC vs no NFC
  • Nexus 10 has an added sensor called a barometer which can measure air pressure
  • Overall less expensive

iPad 4 beats the Nexus 10 in:
  • Has the option to have mobile data plans
  • Aluminium build

For gaming, I would choose the Nexus 10 over the iPad 4. Overall much better spec-wise, more CPU power, and display is much better in terms of both screen real estate and display quality.

personally i'd wait for snapdragon 800 tablets to be released later this year, unless you need something right now. adreno 330 looks awesome (faster than ipad4 gpu)

I disagree with the earlier statement that the Nexus 10 beats the iPad in display quality. I've owned both tablets. The Nexus 10 has better DPI, but the iPad 4 display looks much better. Has much better contrast, the blacks look blacker, the colors look much better. The Nexus 10 looks a little washed out and seems to have more issues with backlight bleeding.

I think the display on my $150 Nook HD+ looks much better than the Nexus 10.

So if you are a stickler about good looking displays, becareful with the Nexus 10 and even the Nexus 7 seems to have similar issues too.

I'd take the iPad 4 simply because games tend to come out for iOS first. I'm otherwise in the Android camp.

And the iOS has a better game selection in general and games tend to work better on iPad (EA really sucks at supporting their Android games for some reason).

However I do have a preference for Android. So if I wanted an Android gaming tablet, I'd probably wait a month for the Tegra 4 tablets. Then you'll be able to take advantage of the special Nvidia optimizations to the TegraZone games.

The NVIDIA Shield is based on Tegra4. Not sure if the form factor is to your liking though.

I'm not sure about that. But for the price you are not going to find anything better. Although I think you should be more focuses on the games you are looking for and see which platforms support them.

Don't think I would notice any difference in real life performance in terms of the GPU.

Here's what I rate the most important to least important:

1. CPU
2. GPU
3. RAM

Most tablets have 1GB to 2GB RAM and it doesn't make a huge difference.

I think the CPU makes the most noticeable difference in terms of smoothness and lag.

GPU is purely for gaming and I manage extremely high and stable framerates on both my iPhone 4S and Galaxy S4... even though the Galaxy S4 has a much better GPU.
