Here's what i'm looking at right now -

Seagate Barracuda 400GB Hard Drive - $279.99 (Compusa)
Nec 16x DVD Burner - $71.99 (Newegg)
Antec Sonata Case - $98.88 (Newegg)
eVGA Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 128MB Video Card - $45.89 (Newegg)
Epson Stylus R200 Printer - $86.75 (Newegg)

I could push my total budget to $700-$750 being that i'm gonna try to sell my current rig first here local including my printer for $500.

To total price of the products i got listed above is $583.50 so that leave us with $166.50 for the cpu/mobo/ram which doesn't look like much so any changes to make the price work will help. My main thing is having lots of hd space & needing that hd to run fast.

What cpu/mobo/ram combo i should go after ? i don't do anytype of gaming. I do however do some minor video encoding with programs such as svcd2dvd & use winrar/iosbuster etc.

2 - WD 80GB One JB model & the others is a BB i think.
Nec 3500
Windows XP
Nero & Decrypter
Not with the cds as they get done like in 2 minutes & i never notice.

Just gonna go ahead & get a new system.

Amount of memory? Are the burner and HD you're burning from on the same IDE channel?
 
A64 2800+ and agp mobo = $200 (see thread #1 in this forum).
P4 3.0E sock775 and i915 pci-e mobo = $290

Both are about the same speed. I don't see any reason to get the intel unless you want pci-e, but then consider that for the P4 + 6600GT pci-e price ($480) you could get the A64 with a 6800 agp.

Also, my pioneer A06 (106) is a great burner, but reviews I've read of the 108 have been much less positive than for the NEC. One review (CDfreaks?) showed the 108 doing much worse on media compatibility, burning slower with more (correctable) errors.
 
i dunno about your whole system but get a NEC drive. never failed on me. burns cheap-o's and name brand stuff great. i have a 2500a and 2510a myself. my next rig will have a 3500 maybe.
 
Yeah i'll be getting a Nec 3500 for my new rig. More less i just gotta see what type of cpu/mobo/ram setup to go with.
 
I wish I could help. I too am interested in this... except I have about a $1000 budget, though that has to include a 17" LCD with DVI input. (I'm a CRT guy, but this is for a friend). We'd like P4, but A64 is a possibility.
 
You haven't asked any new questions, so I have nothing to add.

Try doing some research yourself and pick out some parts that you think will be good. Once you have done that post what you ahve chosen here. Then we can take a look at the parts you chose. Many of the people reading this thread simply do not have enough time to pick out an entire system for you. The system buyers guide that is stickied in this forum is a great place to start. Also if you go to the guides section on AA there is some buyer guides that should be helpful too.
 
NDENT pick out the stuff you want tell us what you will be doing with this pc how long do you want it to last i mean you gave us a lil paragraph with some dvd burners that isnt gonna help us.
 
Not to sound like a $%$% but if i knew what parts i wanted i wouldnt be asking yous no would i. I asked for peoples input on what i should get for that budget. I thought i did say what this system is gonna be for.
