Been looking for a subwoofer here and doing quite a bit of research.

At first I was just looking towards the Polk PSW10 or Pioneer sw-8 which are pretty low end budget subs and since its for a small room they would probably suffice. However, after thinking about it, might as well go big so I dont have to buy another down the line....

So please recommend what you think is the best subwoofer for 80% movies/TV and 20% music in the $200 or below range. Its for a pretty small bedroom right now, but want to have it ready for a larger room too.

Thus far I have focused on the Bic America F12 which is about $200, Polk PSW505 which is $190 or the Velodyne VX-11 which some have even said sounds better then the Bic F12.

Thoughts?

Any chance you can increase your budget by $50 -

since its your bedroom and space is tight - you want something small, that sounds great, but can be much larger in the future.

$250 with free shipping from Crutchfield - http://www.crutchfield.com/p_653S8B/Mirage-OMNI-S8.html?tp=187&kw=&org=pla&nw=g&crv=15802862185

I have its big brother the S12 - its been fantastic for the past 6yrs.

Thanks for the input. I have no experience with that brand name so I cant speculate on sound, maybe it sounds amazing. Ill have to check out some reviews. My first initial reaction would be, a little more money than id want to spend on an 8" when I can get 12" for the same price. Space is an issue though.

I know, both of those ive been looking at.... If I went for the VX-11's, Id probably sell one of them off since I only need one. That would put it like around the $123 range, but of course the hassle of selling one.

The VX11 is probably the best one to get for me now since its for a small room and cheaper. In contrast, the BIC F12 has a 5-year warranty which has to add some type of value to it, plus its definitely bigger and has a wider frequency range and output. Its also about $80 more expensive and larger which I might have issues fitting in my room.

The Velodyne only have a 2-year warranty. However, I have read some other peoples comments on various forums searching around and ive seen a few say they actually like the VX-11 even better than the BIC F12 which is kind of shocking.

I would keep both of the VX11 actually. Two subs, positioned properly, will give you smoother bass response.

Still I would recommend the F12 though. It goes a lot lower.

You dont make it easy do you. :)

Ive been leaning towards the F12 because of the 5-year warranty vs the 2-year warranty and the fact that spending more now may allow me to not bother having to buy a "bigger" one down the road. Theres no doubt the F12 is better, but the VX 11's are known for being damn good even though ive never listened to either.

Youre right though, two subs could be interesting with the vx's.

Trying to make a decision, thanks for the help.

At first I was debating between the Polk PSW10 and Pioneer SW-8, which are both like $75-90. Then kind of decided to get something a little better now after reading some comments on them than go for something so low end and cheap and having to upgrade later.

I have the PA120 which is very similar to the F12. I am very happy with it. I don't know if I would be as happy with a cheaper sub.

Newegg use to carry the Energy S10.3(same as the Mirage Omni S10) for around $200. However looking around it appears to be either discontinued or over $360 if you can find it. I'd recommend the Omni S8 if it were cheaper and your main focus was music but for $200 and movies its really hard to beat the BIC F12.

I've had a BiC F12 for a couple months now and love it. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. For movies and games it's absolutely perfect. Explosions and such will shake the house. Can't comment much on music as I'm not a huge music guy, it sounds good to me but I'm not much of an audiophile at all.

If I had the space, id buy the BIC F12 in an instant probably.

Which sub would you buy in the 8" category? Pioneer SW-8 or BIC V-80? Anyone have a clue which is better?

If you like bass go big. There is nothing like displacement. That bic sub is an outstanding value, big driver, big enclosure, big power. Make it fit in your room, you won't regret it and you'll be ready when you move to a larger room.
