best standard nintendo controller

Personally I like the N64, great for FPS like Golden eye, however the analog stick would lose its smooth movement fairly quickly.

I always found the gamecube controller to be quite comfortable, I don't have huge hands so the apparent tiny size didn't bother me.

I think the GC controller is nice for two reasons... First, you can reach the D-pad and the control stick with your left hand. You couldn't do this on an N64 easily. Second, it is available in an excellent wireless flavor. The one down side is the position of the Z-button... I like the z-button (trigger) on the N64 a lot. It was very useful in Zelda.

N64, it fit my hands perfectly for the controls that were needed. Especially in Goldeneye: 007. The gamecube controllers are crappy IMO.

GC isn't bad. I think it's the best of all theirs. Didn't much care for the N64 pad. The SNES was a little light and flat for my tastes.

None compare to the Playstation controller, though.

For general gaming, I like the GC controller, however the GC and N64 controllers totally suck for fighting games. The PS2 controller is best for that, or an arcade stick.

Keep in mind...the NES controller was much more simple. It had a d pad, 2 action buttons, start and select. The only thing that beats it for simplicity is the old atari controllers that were a joystick with 1 button. Great design jump for the NES, but I thought the controllers were too small. Now that I compare it to the newer designs, it feels flimsy and cheap. 😛

The original NES had a "max" controller that was awesome at the time. It had a "disk" instead of a control pad that didn't leave your thumbs bleeding after playing 20 hours of contra straight 🙂 Probably one of my favorite controllers ever...of any console.

Next favorite is the X-box "S" controller. Love the analog sticks and overall well constructed and heavy feel of it.

Sounds like Intellivision.

NES Dogbone Controller 😀 Came with the toploading systems, was the shape of an SNES controller but with NES controls. Much nicer than those huge corners 🙂

SNES, GC, N64, NES

The SNES button style (two convex, two concave) was the best idea ever implemented in a video game controller.

Great point. I completely forgot about the button shapes. It lessened confusion in the days when four buttons was alot.

I liked the original NES controllers. The award for worst controller ever goes to the original NES Advantage. Man was that thing a pig! Should have been called the Disadvantage.

My original deluxe set controllers still work perfectly some 20 years later; they respond and click like the day I got 'em.

Can't argue with that.

You obviously didnt play enough! My controllers definitely had to be replaced after all of the abuse that I put them through.
