What is the best print server (either usb or parallel) that will support windows, linux and appletalk for under a hundred bucks?
I am looking for a print server that will connect to my existing network via a cat5 cable and then to the printer via usb or parallel
Also is what printers are networkable ?? Is my canon i850 a networkable printer?
Thanks in advance

I've found HP JetDirect 300X single parallel port print servers on eBay for $60US. (not my auction, btw)

Your printer will be networkable over this print server only if you printer has a parallel printer connection or a usb to parallel adapter.

Secondly, you will have to manually install print drivers on user computers since this print server cannot serve drivers for the print device it runs.

for parallel printers, anything from the HP ex Plus (J2591a) on up works well, with a few caveats. some printers are unsupported. Read the documentation reagarding your particular printer before you buy.

Welcome to AnandTech Network Forum.

Under $100 and should every thing printer can do in the world???:D

I am waiting for the day that there will be a post like "I want to go to Rome for under $10".

In any case the following will turn your USB printer port to a Printer Server. Compatible with Win and Apple. Do not know about Linux but should not be a problem since it will present itself as Ethernet.

Link to: DP-301U Express EtherNetwork Fast Ethernet Print Server.

I'm thinking of the D-Link DP-300u Multi-Port Print Server. It is a 10/100Mb/s print server with two parallel and one USB 1.1 ports.

It would give me flexibility if I change printers (between parallel and USB).

Does anyone have any experience with this or a similar product?

Thanks...
