Another vote for the ACS 54.

Picked up a set at a local computer show for $64.

Sounded good at the show, I was amazed when I actually set it up at home, usually don't find good speakers at the local computer show :)

I think very highly of the Altec Lansing ACS 33 system, which is a great buy at around $35 to $50. I also like the Cambridge Soundworks PC Works speakers with subwoofer for around $45 at onvia.com. Both are 3 piece speakers with 2 small satellites and a decent subwoofer, and both offer great bang for the buck, IMO.

Since everyone seems to recommending them, I have a brand new set of the CL Cambridge Soundworks PCWorks bought on clearance at Office Depot that I'd sell for $36 shipped (assuming shipping is less than $10 via UPS Ground). I lost the receipt and can't return them, but I have no use whatsoever for them since I have about six sets of speakers and two computers. :) It was just one of those deals I couldn't pass by!

Another vote for the Cambrige SoundWorks PCWorks. They are a steal at around $36 bucks, and they really sound great. You can't go wrong with these speakers if you're on a tight budget. :)

If you can find it, go for the Microsoft Digital Sound System speakers (DSS80). They are really nice and offer clean and crisp bass.

They are also cheap, I got them for around $90CDN (after rebate) from Price Club (Costco).
