I am personally a big fan of Williams scores, I think he has made more memorable themes than any other (Jaws, Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Schindlers List, Harry Potter, etc...) most of those movies could be named by music alone which is good in my book.

Other artists I like are Hans Zimmer, though he tends to recycle music (all the composers do this to some extent, he just does it more). You can really here this if you listen to some of his older movies or "the Rock" and "Broken Arrow" together. I really enjoyed the Black Hawk Down score, I thought Zimmer did an especially great job with that. Other notable composers that I enjoy include (sorry about bad spelling) Michael Kamen, James Horner, Jerrry Goldsmith, and Trevor Rabin.

I guess if I had to pick an all-time favorite soundtrack I would cheat and say Star Wars. At this point I have ~15 CD's of SW music and I love the development of the themes for the various characters over the 5 (soon 6) films. I look forward to hearing the score for Ep 3. My other top scores are Gladiator, Schindlers List, Catch me if you Can, Armageddon (don't ask me, it just seems really cool), and Black Hawk Down.

dude, mortal combat sound track!

The spawn movie one was really good too, alot of bands who were underground at that time, but got popular later.

Bubba Ho-Tep. Fantastic work, fit the mood extremely well. I've had the End Themes just playing on a loop for hours, and The King's Highway is great, too.
Six-String Samurai. Quirky, odd, and again, fantastic guitar work. The lyrics to My Love is Killing Me always get a grin, and My Darling Lorraine is just a song that sticks in my head.
Both tracks are by Brian Tyler. A very underrated composer

Hackers. A great techno collection. A little old, but all good.
Fifth Element It would be worth getting for the Diva's solo alone.
Lord of the Rings trilogy of course. Truly fantastic work on Shore's part.

 man i was just hoping to be the first to post that! AWESOME soundtrack - get it now.

my 2nd fave would be the Natural Born Killers soundtrack. Very very very good.

Mambo Kings.

Also surprised no one mentioned Danny Elfman, he's done alot of big money flicks lately but some of his stuff like Edward Scissorhands is very good. And no dbout John Williams writes the most memorable music.

Blues Brothers
Animal House
O Brother Where Art Thou
The Commitments
Braveheart
Grosse Pointe Blank
LotR (the whole bunch)

afterthought
