basically, the cards at question are the acoustic edge and SB 5.1
i have a aureal sq2500 connected to the dolby decoder of the s4-7100 plus via the s/pdif output. right now, when i playback mp3's, the surround sound options on the decoder are limited to prologic and stereo. stereo limits the system to 2.1, and with prologic, the sound coming out of the rear speakers are very limited (basically sucks in my opinion).
the decoder also has an ac-3 digital mode. if the sound blaster live 5.1 output was set to ac-3, will that make mp3's playback in an ac-3 stream and make the rear sound better?
i was impressed by what i read about the QMSS on the acoustic edge, and was wondering if the output by the acoustic edge is ac-3 when playing back mp3s and games. if it isn't, i think the midiland decoder will overide the signal and convert the signals into prologic.
basically, i want a sound card which can output ac-3 streams for games and mp3s without the signals getting overriden by the midiland dolby decoder (if this is possible). and if anyone has the s4-7100 plus, can you comment on what sound cards you use? thanks.
