Best software to test new NAS drives before installation?

I just received my HGST 4TB NAS drives that will be going into my QNAP TS-451. I've read in the past about testing the drives beforehand and was wondering the best way to do this? I'd like to find out if the drives are good or not before I go ahead and set them up in a RAID-5 config.

Thanks.

I usually just run unraid preclear script. Even if they're not going in my server I still use it on desktop drives too. Usually run 2 passes. It will catch any problems.

Western Digital and Seagate provide a diagnostic software program, seemingly specific to the "family" of drive models. YOu get that free from their web-sites. I haven't looked at HGST's site, although I thought I was there once. Didn't they vanguard the "perpendicular" drive?
