Best software to encode AVI/MPEG to DVD and so on

Looking to find the best software to encode a bunch of AVI/MPEG files to DVD format.

Are all encoding software pretty much the same?
Do any perform better on multiple cores or do they all do about the same performance?

Nothing too complicated and fairly easy to use would be a plus.

Suggestions?

I get good dual-core scaling with Adobe Premiere Elements (had both 1.0 and 2.0). The encoding phase of the job was cut almost in half when I switched from an A64 3000+ to an X2 3800+. I haven't tried much else, so that's about all I can bring to the table.

You can burn to DVDs or make MPEG output from AVI, MPEG, QuickTime MOV, Windows Media WMV and probably most any other semi-normal type of video files. They've got a free downloadable demo if you want to see whether you like the interface and stuff, http://www.adobe.com.

D/L now.

Only on single Core now, but would like to get some software that supports multiple cores, and I see this does!

My upgrade is coming shortly so....Wanna get ready 🙂

If it is straight conversion without editing, try Pegasys Tsunami's stuff. You can get one of the best encoders cheap and they also have a DVD authoring tool as an add-on. Of course, Elements, Pinnacle Studio, and Vegas Movie are about the same price.
