best socket A HSF? (quiet and cool)

I recently bought an AthlonXP 2100+
then I was told that it was one of the hottest cpu's out there (as in produces the most heat 😛)
right now I have my old OCZ Gladiator on it with a weird fan what has 3 blade layers ... ehhh whatever, temps are around 48C when doing normal things (surfing internet, listening to music, word) and jumps to around 54C after playing a hour of Mafia 🙂

the thing is I'm looking for a quiet, excellent performance HSF ...

so far I only see Coolermaster's HHC-L61 as an option ... though from some reviews I read it doesn't perform as well under stress ... your opinions?

Depending on whether your motherboard has room for it, the Alpha 8045 is an excellent choice. The Thermalright SLK800 is also an excellent heatsink. For a few dollars less you can get the Thermalright SK7 which should also be adequate. Be sure to use Arctic Silver! All of these heatsinks support 80mm fans.

hmmm I'll look into those ... the fan on the Alpha 8045 is quite loud same with that SLK800 ... what should I replace it with? those Y.S. Tech adjustables requires you to manually set the fan speed, probably means I'd have to get down on my knees everytime I want to play a game 🙂 maybe an auto sensing fan?

also I found a few more contestants 🙂 (they are mid noise to low noise with stock fans they come with)
ARKUA 628
Coolermaster HSC-V62
Spire 5F263
Taisol CGK760092

I wouldn't waste time with an adjustable fan. All of those heatsinks I listed are capable of adequate cooling with a mild fan. Look into a Panaflo M1a or possibly L1a for your fan.

so I'm thinking of getting this combo:

Thermalright SLK800 + YS Tech Tip-Magnetic Driven Fan (70mm)+arctic silver 3

(if anyone has, LMK! i'm wtb -->email me)
(know any reliable online stores that sells this stuff and accepts paypal??)

Before I sold my XP system it was a OCZ Goliath with a 60mm-80mm fan adapter sporting a Vantec Stealth 80mm fan. The only way to hear it was to put your ear right next to it. Kept the temps down, was quiet and costed less than $28 shipped. Does not get much sweeter than that.

Personally I like CoolerMaster, but that is because I am a heavy overclocker (used to be anyway). They provide great cooling and max out at about 7300 RPMs. Probalem is that is screams like a bitch. However, I am very impressed by its performance.

I have an XP 2100+ also. I use an Alpha 8045 with a Panaflo L1a on it. I LOVE IT. It's so quiet compared to other HS/F combos I've used before, and while my idle temps (low 40's) aren't as cool as some other people's, It's more than adequate seeing as how the danger zone doesn't even start til you get up around 90 (according to AMD).

Even after an hour or two of playing Unreal 2K3 I seldem see temps over 50. So I'd highly reccomend this combo (assuming it's in your price range) it will keep you well within the suggested temperature range for the CPU, and it will also be very easy on your ears.

I too have the Alpha 8045 with the 80mm fan. I have a AthlonXP 1700+ I am running at 32 C idle and between 36-40 C at max load. It's such a nice and quiet Fan!! It's great. Love it.

A Thermaltake Volcano 7+ or wait for Volcano 11 coming out soon. I think it's going to be the best
heatsink out there!

Got an XP1900+ with the Alpha 8045 & Panaflo on it, great heatsink and very quiet. Keeps my CPU cool all year round.
