Best Socket A heatsink......(new thread)

Ok, so b4 you link me to a review....READ MY QUESTION !!!!

I don't care about any reviews that have the top runners all with 7,000RPM fans..... I can do that to any ol' heatsink.

I want to know what the best HEATSINK is....all fans being equal.

My guess is that it would come to the AX-7, the 8045, and the top Swiftech heartsink (the 80mm crowd)....but i could be wrong.

I would be glad to put any fan of my choice on the darn thing after I know I have the best one for cooling.

I want to be able to use less air to get the job done.....so there it is.

I recently read a couple of reviews and it showed the AX-7 behind the Alpha and Swiftech by only 1-2 degrees using the same fan. I have 2 sitting in UPS hell right now waiting for me to pick them up. With the heatwave we've had here in the past few days, I realized that my SK6's with my 42CFM 80mm fans just weren't cutting it and I refuse to go back to the 60mm Delta noisemaker.

AX7, AX7, AX7 with the adjustable enermax 80mm fan. Easier to install than the motherboard mounted heatsinks and you can adjust your performance/noise ratio. Fan runs from 1000 to 3000rpm.

My 8045 was a breeze to install. Sure I had to remove the mobo but I like knowing that it is NOT going to fall off and ruin my system when I take my PC to LAN parties. Worth the extra 10 mins of install time in my book.

So I vote for the PAL!

As for the fan I have, it's a panaflo. The panaflo is quiet so I chose it over other fans, even with a fan that is meant for quiet more than cooling my temps are 43-44c range. 1GHZ T-bird

All three (8045, 462, AX-7) are in the same ballpark, really it depends on which you can easily get hold of, whether it fits your Mobo, whether you can be bothered with one which bolts through the holes (and if the board HAS holes for the Alpha or Swifty unlike some Asus Dual-CPU Boards), are worried about having a socket mounting (AX-7) and of course cost..

I went for the AX-7 because, the Swifty is very expensive in the UK, the Alpha isn`t easy to get at a good price and the AX-7 uses all 3-lugs to mount it and IMO also offers the best bang for buck of the three..

If you`re on a real budget or can`t warrant spending even AX-7 money, the Volcano-7+ is the HS bargain of the century but it doesn`t use an 80MM fan therefore limiting replacement (it`s 70MM) and mounts on the Athlon using just one lug (scary on such a heavy heatsink in a tower), but it`s not far behind the three above, and a bargain for P4 users as it comes with a kit for that too!. Shame about the Athlon Clip, maybe someone will market an aftermarket 3-lug one for it.

AX7 if you like to change heatsinks,cpus, motherboards often.
Alpha8045 if you dont plan to change and/or move the case around a lot.

One thing I really dont like about the alphas is that the screws that come in the box arent long enough for some 80mm fans.

You are asking the right question. You need a reference or constant point for comparison, and fan Noise is that pivot point.

Swifttech,Alpha and the AX7 are all hybrid cu/al sinks with the same volumetric size give or take a cubic inch. They are homologous sinks and perfect for comparisons

Overclockers.com recent test of the Alpha PIV Alpha PAL 8942 PIV Heatsink Test Results Falls exactly on the same point as the AX7 .34 C/W @ 38 dBA my guess is the swiftech would fall on the same point exacly also. So in answer to your question they are all equal just depends on what fan. Although the glaciator, if cost/noise was the determing factor would be my choice.

I don't mean to sound rude or anything, BUT DO A SEARCH!!!!!!! This has been discussed 9720837582739582 times.

Now then, I would suggest the Alpha PAL8045 with a Panaflo L1A (24cfm, 21dba) or Panaflo M1A (28dba, 32cfm). If you go to FrozenCPU they have the Alpha, Thermalright, and the Swiftech at decent prices and can choose a range of fans for each. I just ordered some stuff from them, and so far everything is going well.
