Best Socket 370 chipset

Hi;
I want to know what the best Socket 370 chipset is. Intel? VIA? other? I dont want the 820 or that VIA DDR one, I want to use some of the the SDRAM thats laying around. So I guess it boiuld down to the 815 (E, EP, whats the difference?) or the VIA Apollo Pros
thanks!

440BX!!! well actually... its getting quite old but i still think its one of the best chipsets ever... if you're gonna run a p3 and sdram you might as well get the TUSL2-C... you can run the old coppermines and the new tualatins... if you've seen the 1.2 celerons... some people have gotten them to 1.6 with no problems. that's pretty much a 1.6 p3... since it already has 256k cache. pretty sweet is you ask me.

Go with the Intel i815E family of chipsets.

The i815EP does not have the integrated i752 video; the i815E does.

The 815EP is the standard 815 without the integrated video.

If you do get one, make sure it supports the new Tualitan P3/Celeron CPU's (sometimes called i815 revision B).

The VIA Apollo Pro's are perfectly adequate and perform equally good as the i815 boards. These also have been revised to support the new P3/Celeron's so make sure you get the right type of board again.
The VIA DDR boards for the intel platform never really showed much of a speed improvement, but now the clockspeeds are going up and the CPU's have been improved, the DDR capability may help out.

I would personally head towards an intel based motherboard, but the choice is yours.
