Best Small Laser Printer under $150?

Ok, I'm in search of a decent laser printer (black and white only) for personal use. I'm in college and I often have a lot of notes and stuff to print out and so I'm looking for a cheap laser printer. I'm not worried about color printing, and I'd like to have the speed of a small laster printer for the times when I need to print out say 40 pages of notes.
I know of atleast the following brands make small B&W lasters for around $100 on sale:

Brother, Samsung, Konica Minolta

Does anybody have experience with these small lasers and any specific models they would recommend, either to buy or which ones to aviod?

Any advice would be greatly apprecieated. Ive been reading reviews, but I'd also like to see if anyone on the forums has had personal experience with the cheaper lasers out there.

I've got the Brother HL-1440 and probably wouldn't recommend it. It's less than three months old and already prints smudges on the paper.

I have a 2 year old Brother 1440 that works like a charm.

I have one of the new Brother HL-2040s (it was about $90 AR I think) and it is working very well so far. I am basically in the same position as you.

i have a samsung 1710, and a 1740, very happy with both (printing about 500 pages / mo)

for $80 AR can't be beat
