Papillon.

Papillons are great little dogs, but they shed and are not considered "hypo-allergenic."

If it weren't for the allergy issues, I'd recommend a Yorkie...GREAT little dogs...surprisingly brave and "ferocious" for their size. (ours is just under 6 lbs)

I agree with the Yorkie. My sister's roomie has one, and it is the tiniest dog I've ever seen. It was also playful and cute.

Yorkie for the win.

+1 He's the second best dog I have had next to my airdale(RIP). They don't shed much nd are calm enough not to drive you crazy in an apartment. I couldn't imagine living with yorkie.

Thats what we have too. She honestly has the most personality of any dog I have ever met. I was not a fan of small dogs before her. She does shed, however.

Toy poodle all the way.

Hypoallergenic dogs:

Here is a short list of dogs known to be okay with asthma/allergy sufferers because they shed very little dander. In no particular order, plus some extra comments.

1. Poodles, Standard and Miniature excellent with kids, bonds to whole family, excellent watchdog, highly trainable and sheds very little hair. Standard Poodle Miniature

2. Poodles, Toy, small fragile bones, therefore caution around rambunctious children - perhaps better suited for mature people, tends to bond to one person, excellent watchdog, highly trainable and sheds very little hair. Toy Poodle

3. Chihuahuas, small fragile bones, therefore caution around rambunctious children - perhaps better suited for adults, tends to bond to one person, excellent watchdog, average trainability. They do shed a bit. Chihuahua

4. Portuguese Water Dogs, good with kids, tends to bond to one person, average watchdog, average trainability. Sheds a little. Portuguese Water Dog

5. Irish Terrier, excellent with kids, bonds to whole family, excellent watchdog, highly trainable, and sheds very little. Don't care for other dogs of same sex. Irish Terrier

6. Bichon Frise, excellent with kids, bonds to whole family, excellent watchdog, average trainability, and sheds very little. Bichon Frise

Zyrtec for the win. I am allergic to dogs, have asthma, and have had one for several months. It sheds EVERYWHERE. One Zyrtec a day, no problems at all. And now that it is available over the counter, its much cheaper than my co-pay was before.

I'm definitely going to have her get some of that stuff then. I have 4 cats which give her a lot of problems when she spends the night at my house. Thanks for all the recommendations everyone.

Is your dog missing a front leg? I had a Dalmatian that had to have his front leg amputated on the same side, due to being hit by a car. Tri-paweds can get around pretty well.

any long haired dog, you're going to have to brush his hair once a day if you can to keep it knot and mat free, but if you keep his hair fairly short (my parents give him practically a puppy cut) it's not that bad to deal with.

how much did she cost?

I'm allergic also and I have a Bichon. He's quite a character and is very sociable. Highly recommend getting one.

ZyrtecD OTC FTW! Better than getting shots, and cheaper. BTW- Get a Boston Terrier, best breed evar.

Yep, previous owner stepped on her and never bothered to go to the vet :(. We adopted her shortly after the surgery. In that photo you can see that her fur is light in that area versus the rest of her body.

She is faster than our Beagle when running. She face plants every once in awhile, but she shakes it off. I am concerned that all of her jumping will eventually hurt her front leg, though.

We have two chihuahua puppies (6 months old) that are litter box trained. It was very easy to train them to go in the boxes. We can leave them for hours without incident.

I assume having two helps with the lack of humans around. I'm not sure how well it would work with only one dog.

toy poodle would be a good one...my sister has 3 of them and she has horrible allergies to most other animals but these are perfect. And they don't shed at all.
