Mammoth Mountain, no doubt. it's scheduled to open November 9th., and almost every year, the last day of the season is July 4th. Yes, you can ski/snowboard well into the summer months in California.

Wouldn't that depend on what state is closest to you? Hmm for me I think its somewhere in NH.

Whistler is always near, if not at, the top of the list for North America. Whistler!

Love Coloado and Montana but Canada is outstanding.

<<Whistler, Blackcombe, Banff, Lake Louise list goes on.>>

1st 2 are my faves, summer and winter.

Whistler/Blackcomb, Lake Louise, Fernie... and if you're
trapped in the east, Mont Sainte Anne.

Augghhhh! I hate American ski mags! Ranking Whistler 3rd, with no other Canadian resorts in the top 10? At best, ignorant. At worst, propaganda.

WHAT?! No Copper Mountain? NO A-Basin?! ARGH! They got the best powder! Well, I don't now...I'm just not insane, or rich enough, to go to Vail or Aspen.

chansen:

Those results are based on survey results from actual skiers...not the magazine editors.

Those results also factor in a bunch of stuff not directly related to skiing, but more the "vacation experience."

Also, I second the notion that American ski magazines are suck.

I am going to go out on a limb and say Mt. Baker, how can you go wrong with a mountain that has set the all time snowfall record for one season in the last 3 years.

The top 5 mountains that I hope to visit this winter

1. Whistler/Blackcomb
2. Mt. Baker
3. Somewhere in Tahoe
4. Mt. Bachelor
5. Mt. Hood Meadows

The last 2 are a lock, I will definitely go to Bach and Hood. I have an unused plane ticket to Reno, so I will definitely hit up Tahoe. My Avalanche are playing on my birthday, (feb. 1) in Vancouver. Hopefully I will be there for that game, then spending some quality time in the mountains as well.

Mt. baker has kick @ss snow. I was near there last year (spring break, my parents decide to go somewhere cold, and don't pack the skis) and i got a chance to look around there, it's awesome. I don't know how it compares to whistler or vail tho....

Sohcan,

Arc a couple on Cirque for me. Or Saudan Couloir (now Couloir Extreme, I guess people couldn't pronounce Saudan). Your choice.

Craig
