well, i'll tell you right now: they're junk. SUV's are junk. they hog gas, hog the road, and aren't even that great for off-roading.

that being the case, every review I've read rated the Chevy Suburban much better than the Excursion.

Right, and trucks don't? They're made for utility - they're popular because they're smaller than minivans and full sized vans. (Which I see a lot of on the road also) Thanks for your uninformed opinion.

The F150 gets 17-21 mpg, can't say the same for the excursion. The excursion gets 8-12,

Although I don't really know what you're saying here, I'll say this. I've got no problem with a pickup, because they are good at what they're made to do: haul stuff and go off-road (well, most are). SUV's are not that great at off-roading, and are horrendous for on-road use.

"Thanks for your uninformed opinion."

I don't really see how my opinion is uninformed, but whatever dude. I'm not the one that thinks a Ford Excursion is smaller than a minivan.

If you want something to off-road in, you won't beat a jeep, and the grand cherokee can haul alot too. If you need to haul alot more stuff, just get a truck or van :) or so thinks soy.....

I didn't say all of them.

And I don't see why people think certain things are crap without using them first. I've ridden in an Excursion, (neighbor ditched his 94 Suburban to get one) and I must say its nice. Gas mileage wise, it sucks, but you wouldn't make the decision to buy it without taking that into account first. Everyone bashes it but they really don't know dick about it.

Since Ford killed the diesel option on the Excursion, I am not as fond of it as I was when it was first introduced. With a big sled like that, you want torque, and lots of it. That's where a diesel shines. However, it is still the biggest SUV on the planet. If you need sheer size, it's the way to go.

And for what it's worth, I've seen a few reviews that placed it above the Suburban overall.

OK kids here is the deal, Thanks to those that responded with the requested info, for the "SUV's is suck" crowd......I have had 4 Explorers, 2 F-150's a Jeep Cherokee over the past 8-10 years, I like SUV's even before the term SUV, I have a growing family and need more space than my F-150 XLT Extended cab and V8 Explorer XLT, I don't really care if you dont like SUV's, I do. :)

Why not get a minivan? Sigh, we've been over this before. Minivans don't have ground clearance, aren't as good in bad weather, and don't carry as much as a Suburban (my vehicle). Plus, SUVs look a hell of a lot cooler :)

<< then why don't you buy a minivan? >>

Because I actually use them for the intended purpose, hunting, fishing, camping and skiing.

well then I applaud you for doing so. i just can't stand the people who buy SUV's to take to the grocery store. THERE ARE OTHER PEOPLE ON THIS PLANET YOU KNOW. seriously, most drivers on the road think that their actions don't affect anyone else. "NO, that's OK, you don't need a turn signal. I didn't need to know that you'd be turning right in front of me!"

ok now this is turning into a gripe about drivers in general.
