TOBS is my favorite cream, the only scent I didn't care for was avacado, the others I have tried are all great (sandalwood, rose, shaving soap, eton college, st james). Tried truefitt & hill and it doesn't seem to lubricate as well.

That was my impression of Truefitt and Hill too. I tried a sampler of some of their creams and wasn't too impressed. I think my favorite of the Taylor's is the sandalwood, rose, and shaving shop. I didn't like their avocado either and I am still on the fence on the almond. The almond has a nice sweet smell but I seem to recall it not performing as well. I absolutely loved the Trumper's coconut though.

If you want an awesome cream that works both ways (lathering on your face or in a mug w/brush) then try out Kiss My Face. Especially the mint one. The menthol makes your face tingle and it's great stuff for shaving anyway.

I couldn't shave unless I could see what I was doing. Do you have a heated (anti-fog) mirror or something?

Yeah I have a fogless mirror in the shower. I have tried doing it without a mirror....never again. I have a mustache and goatee so it's tricky.

If you like the menthol tingle, you'll love

PRO TIP:

Get 'LETRIC SHAVE: http://lectricshave.com/

If you use an electric shaver, splash this on 30 seconds before you shave and I guarantee your skin will feel like a baby's butt (but smell much nicer). It breaks down oils and evaporates water on the skin. It also tightens the skin to make your facial hair stand out more. Good stuff.

Been using a Norelco 8000 series for the last 4 years. Takes 3 minutes to get an awesome shave every morning:
