Hi. I have a Asus P3V4X w/ a P3 550 @ 733 and I been using Flask .6 alot lately and video editing. I was wondering what would be a better setup for runnning this CPU hog of a program 🙂 I would like you setup to a dual proc system of some sort but I need some sugguestions.

Thanks,

How much money are you willing to spend? you could put together a sweet multiprocessor system on a TYan mobo based on the AthlonMP but it would cost a pretty penny.

Isnt flask the really crappy newbie video editor? They have better ones... adobe primeier comes to minds... for DVD ripping isn't there better programs?

dont use flask 6 use 5.x optimized for intel processors (there is also an AMD version using 3DNOW! code) and you should get a performance boost.

as for a processor i heard that the P4 is really good at intel optimized flask but dont buy a P4 just for that, i would just go with a 1.2 or greater tbird and used AMD opted flasked maybe on an MP setup (MP might beat out a P4 i'm not sure)

I'll agree that Flask isn't great. I've had some movies turn out pretty good, but most are really crappy no matter how I fiddle with the settings. It can also be EXTREMEMLY slow. Try doing DVD2AVI ----> VFAPI ----> VirtualDub or Nandub. I've had extremely good results using this method. This page has tons of great how-to's.
